Giving First, Learning Always
“You gave away 30% of the profits to a cancer foundation?”
“When I ran my 2nd hand fashion store, yes.” said Julien
“And you created a project where you awarded Covid front line workers with free hotel stays and dinners at fancy restaurants?” I asked, completely mesmerized
“Yes. It was called Nederland Bedankt” said Julien Jukema of Anywyse
There’s something inside Julien that compels him to having a giving first, and then give some more, kind of attitude.
A characteristic that not many people have.
But the kind of trait that allows him to have an audacious goal of having 100 million people learn better by 2030.
How?
Through Anywyse.audio – a tool that allows you to transform any text into a complete audio-learning experience.
Backed by science, it helps make on the go learning more fun and convenient.
And the kicker?
Julien got the idea when he got cancer and lost his ability to read temporarily.
Ep. 105 of ICL Julien shares more.

3 Growth Hacks to help you Scale
This week I’m in Chisinau as I was invited by the team at DreamUps to give a workshop for Startups based in Moldova and host an event for StartupGrind. Here are some of the growth hacks I’m sharing in the workshop that I’ve implemented for startups and had a huge impact:
Ask for annual upgrades at months 2 and 10. Annual contracts have much lower churn and you lock in stability for 12 months. We were able to cut churn by about .5% by pushing harder on annual contracts and leaning heavily into incorporating mature users more deeply into the community. We had the most success positioning this in terms of dollars saved, so subject line, “Want to save $1,123/year on your Bonjoro account?”. Don’t just mass send these, personalize them and you will thank me later.
Ask for attribution source on intake (best questions to ask: where did you first hear about us? Where else have you heard about us?) GA doesn’t track users who came in from the dark social, podcasts, or word of mouth. Once you get enought insight, you’ll know what 3-4 channels you should focus on.
Partnership/Influencer Marketing. Get 5, 10 or even 15 experts to weigh in on a topic. Then you compile the content and share it. Experts get backlinks and have an incentive to re-share because they are included. You get massive distribution baked in and the time to create articles is minimal because the experts provide the content.
Like these? If you want to chat more about them, let me know and we can schedule a call.

The End
Hey! I’m in Chisinau having a great time with the team at Dreamups and StartupGrind.
Yesterday after my workshop, I went to the Cricova winery which is massive! There’s something like over 100+ kilometers of passages underground where millions of bottles of wine is processed and stored. People like Marat Safin and Angela Merkel have their wines stores there.
After getting a little tipsy (from the wine tasting of course), I had a great dinner with the Dreamups team. More to share in next week’s newsletter!
